The U.K. and Ireland box office chart for the weekend ending October 25 was dominated by a new horror-comedy. Lionsgate U.K. released "Ghosts: The Possession of Button House," and the film collected £2.4 million, which equals $3.2 million. This opening performance placed the title at the top of the regional rankings.
The film entered a crowded market with several major studio releases. Warner Bros. launched the DC thriller "Clayface" in second position, earning $2.6 million. Amazon MGM Studios placed the comedy "Ali G: Who Iz I?" in third, generating $1.7 million during its debut session. These three titles formed the top tier of the weekend's earnings.
Black Bear's animated fantasy "Wildwood" directed by Travis Knight secured the fourth spot with an opening haul of $1.36 million. Paramount's "Street Fighter" moved down from its previous number one position to fifth in its second week. The film added $1.35 million to its total, bringing its cumulative gross to $5.6 million.
Universal's animated feature "Forgotten Island" placed sixth in its second weekend. It collected $1.2 million, lifting its running total to $3.7 million. Sony's psychological thriller "Verity" followed in seventh position in its fourth frame. The film added $857,067 to its gross, which now stands at $14.4 million.
Mubi's drama "Fatherland" debuted at number nine. The film generated $264,083 from 86 locations over the three-day frame. This resulted in a screen average of $3,144, the fourth highest among new releases. Including preview screenings, the total opening reached $415,017. This figure surpassed the 2018 film "Cold War" to mark director Paweł Pawlikowski's biggest launch in the territory.
The upcoming schedule includes mid-week event programming starting Tuesday with Trafalgar Releasing's broadcast of the Royal Ballet's "Manon." On Wednesday, the music documentary "Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning" directed by Ben Wainwright-Pearce will show in more than 100 locations.
Wide commercial rollouts arrive Friday across more than 300 locations. Disney's documentary "Everest: The Other Side" leads this wave. A24's dark comedy "Primetime" starring Robert Pattinson also opens Friday, as does Black Bear's comedy "Wicker" starring Olivia Colman. Kaleidoscope Entertainment's family comedy "Arnie & Barney" joins the lineup.
The weekend concludes Saturday with Trafalgar Releasing's event cinema presentation of "BTS World Tour 'Arirang' in Sao Paulo." Additionally, Mubi is beginning a staggered rollout of the documentary "Making Marie Antoinette" ahead of Park Circus' re-release of Sofia Coppola's 2006 feature on November 13.
